MID ENGINE LAYOUT

The MID engine does not mean the engine is exact located between the front and rear axle but the engine is located anywhere in between the front and rear wheel axle 

There are mainly three types of MID engine layout

1. Front MID engine layout.  (FMR)
2. Rear MID engine layout.   (RMR)
3. MID Engine All Wheel Drive (M4)

1. Front MID Engine layout 


In this type of layout engine is located between front and rear axle but near to the front axle and after (behind) the front axle or in other word at the rear of the front axle as shown in photo. In this type of layout the power from the engine is transferred to the rear wheel thus the rear axle is live axle which Transfer's the power to the wheel thus this is also known as Front MID Engine Rear wheel drive (FMR)

The Cars like SLR McLaren , Honda s200 Lexus LFA uses this type of layout

2. Rear MID Engine Layout


In this type of layout engine is located between front and read wheel axle but near to the rear wheel axle before the rear axle in other words at the front of the rear axle. The power from the engine is transfered to the rear axle and to the wheels in this type of layout the power is transfered to the rear axle thus rear axle is called live axle as shown in the photo this is also known as Rear MID Engine Rear Wheel Drive (RMR)

Cars like Audi R8 , Lamborghini miura, Lamborghini countach uses this type of layout

3. MID Engine All Wheel Drive


In this type of layout internal combustion engine is located in the middle of the vehicle, between both axles and drives all four wheel  although the term MID engine means the engine is placed anywhere in the vehicle such that the center of gravity of engine lies between the front and rear wheel axle it is mostly used for sports cars  it is also know as MID engine four wheel drive layout (M4)
